* First on 8. Vernon first learned to handle a bell at New Romney in the 1950's, taught by his Grandfather, H.S. Humphery Esq., an experienced change-ringer, who was Captain of the ringers here 1907 - 1969. Vernon returned to ringing here in 2007.

Rung on St Andrews Day (also being Advent Sunday) to celebrate the reopening of the Church following several months of major restoration to the fabric costing several hundred thousand pounds. Following this QP, the local band assembled and rang call changes on 8 immediately prior to the first service (Advent Carol Service) to be held in the church since reopening - viz: Mrs Beryl Hutchens, Miss Andrea Hutchens, Mrs Sue Smart, Mrs Jenny Lester, Mrs Maureen Hutchens, Vernon Hutchens, David Jackson, Tony Smart.

This is the first Quarter Peal of the year at New Romney on account of the work on the church which has prevented all but the local ringers from using the bells this year.

The next phase of restoration (the tower) is now in progress.
